The Snorkeling industry has been growing considerably in the Red Sea and is intimately connected to the Diving industry's development; the time has come to give it more consideration by bringing into it more structure, more safety and therefore more fun.

For those who visit our precious Red Sea and are not able to experience scuba diving, keep in mind that snorkeling will be their only chance to experience the magic of the Red Sea…

Snorkeling Guides carry a responsibility as important as any Scuba Diving Guide, now comes their opportunity to show their commitment, and for Diving Centers, Aqua Centers and Scuba Diving Instructors to support them.

For that purpose, the Chamber of Diving and Watersports, appointed by the Egyptian government, is implementing in cooperation with PADI the new PADI SNORKEL GUIDE PROGRAM for Egypt only.

This Snorkel Guide Program is designed to awake in your Snorkelling guests a sense of respect and knowledge of the marine environment, as much as of the safety regulations through the training of your own Snorkeling Guides.

The success of this program will also be your success!

PADI SNORKEL GUIDE PROGRAM at Skubba

Skubba is committed in supporting this program by providing all needed information to apply for the Snorkel Guide rating, the service of processing the applications and at the same time all the information and PADI material needed by the Instructors to teach the PADI Snorkel Guide Course.

Procedures to be followed by PADI Instructors:

- Download the Snorkel Guide Course Instructor Outline and the Snorkel Guide Candidate Handout from the Pro Area at www.padi.com or pass by at Skubba Shops; we always have a printed version ready for you!

- Get at Skubba the free "Go Snorkel Voucher" and the PADI Snorkel Application to be filled up upon completion of the course and to be given to the Candidate.

PADI Snorkel Guide Presentation for Instructors

Procedures to be followed by PADI Snorkel Guides (Note that the PADI Divemaster rating is currently accepted in lieu of a Snorkel Guide Credential):

- Come and visit us with your Application, we will send it to PADI and follow up until the application gets processed. Note that this Program is effective from the 1^st of November 2008.

- Against their Voucher, every Snorkel Guide will get 100 free "Go Snorkel Brochures" to distribute to future guests while following the correct instructions stated in the Brochures.

PADI SNORKEL GUIDE REQUIREMENTS

To enroll in a Snorkel Guide Program and become an official PADI Snorkel Guide recognized by the Chamber of Diving and Watersports and therefore by the Egyptian government, the requirements stated on the PADI Pros Web Site are the following:

PADI Snorkel Guide Qualification

The Chamber for Diving and Watersports in Egypt is about to bring in new regulations related to the running of recreational snorkeling trips in Egypt. Effective 1st November 2008, all individuals working in Egypt as snorkel guides will be required to hold, amongst other things, a recognised qualification in guiding snorkelers.

While the PADI Divemaster credential already meets this requirement, PADI have been working closely with the CDWS to produce a new programme that any PADI Instructor can run to train snorkel guides to the standards required by the CDWS. The programme results in the participants receiving the new PADI Snorkel Guide certification.

Benefits of this programme are:

• Meets the requirements of the CDWS for the participant to be able to operate as a snorkel guide in Egypt. This programme is only recognised in Egypt.
• Can be run immediately by any PADI Instructor – no additional training or qualifications required for the instructor
• Designed to be run over a 2-day period
• The participant does not have to be a qualified scuba diver, although there are certain watermanship requirements that have to be met
• The content of the programme is drawn from other existing PADI programmes that you will already be familiar with
• The PADI Snorkel Guide becomes an associated member of PADI and receives a PADI Snorkel Guide certification card – this membership needs to be renewed annually to maintain authority to act as a snorkel guide

"GO SNORKEL BROCHURE"

An informative Brochure that includes a "Snorkeling Pledge" part to be signed by the Guests and given to their PADI certified Snorkel Guides.

The rest of the Brochure, also containing an introduction to the first steps of Scuba diving, has to be kept by the Guests.

This will create a unique interaction between the guests and the Snorkel guides based on professionalism and respect, something to inspire and to challenge…
